. . .  in Yamagata prefecture that have had pellet boiler and stove fitted. Table 2 shows the housing we examined. In Japan, most housing uses several stand-alone stoves for heating as central heating has not become a popular way of heating. Pellet fuel is presently only used in stoves alongside the other common heating. The 3 casestudies were using pellet stoves with an output of 11kW. There were differences in the type and amount of assistant heating used in each case. Case A was the house which is using . . .
. . .  wood in Japan has decreased below 20%. This infects to forestry and makes difficult to manage the man made forest which could be estimate as carbon sinks. On the other hand there are many slash, thinning and sawmill waste which are not used. From these conditions energy is a new use for wood. Recently many rural areas in Japan are taking notice of biomass resources and local governments are developing utilization plan for biomass. Even now woody biomass is the most popular energy resource in the world . . .

It would be an effective option especially for the cold and forested areas which have plenty of biomass resources and high heating requirements. There are still some areas that still need working on before full-scale utilization of woody biomass energy can be implemented . . .
